Last year’s COVID restrictions thwarted many of the fundraising events and initiatives planned for Jenny’s Place. But they didn’t stop AGL Australia’s amazing Maintenance Planning team, who managed to raise $6,050 for Jenny’s Place in October last year.
Team Supervisor Troy McLellan said the team had chosen Jenny’s Place as their charity of choice for their monthly fundraising initiative due to the spike in domestic violence incidents reported in the media.
“We knew from our own experience that the COVID shutdowns had really impacted people socially,” Troy said. “We wanted to support Jenny’s Place to try and make a difference to people who had been affected by the increase in domestic violence during that time.”
There are around 20 people in the Maintenance Planning team, who work across Liddell and Bayswater Power Stations. The AGL Maintenance team set themselves an ambitious target to raise $20,000 over 2021, through their monthly fundraising efforts. They achieved an incredible $23,000 for local charities!
Troy says October’s efforts for Jenny’s Place got off to a slow start, due to restrictions imposed by COVID.
“We held a barbecue but not everyone was onsite to participate,” he said. “We had to think outside the square to find some ideas outside the traditional fundraising.”
They held a raffle, with prizes donated by staff and supporters. Troy’s wife, Lisa, donated sensory toys sourced from her business, catering to children with special needs. The team also ran a numbers club for us.
Staff made donations and purchased raffle tickets through the online giving site, the Good Company. AGL topped up the staff donations by a further $1,000.
Thank you so much to the wonderful generous team at AGL Australia’s Maintenance Planning team!
