Crisis Accommodation and Support

Jenny’s Place provides safe, supported crisis accommodation for women with or without children who are experiencing domestic and family violence or homelessness.  


Our properties have a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff work in an empowering manner while ensuring all your initial basic needs are cared for on arrival.


You will have your own bedroom, with shared communal kitchen, living, bathrooms, children’s playroom and yard, toilets and laundry.


When you arrive, you will receive an information pack on Jenny’s Place that explains our service. There are various way that we can help:


  • Assist you when you first come in with your immediate emergency needs such as food, nappies, toiletries, pyjamas/underwear etc, and get you and your children settled into your bedroom (beds and linen provided) and give you a tour of the house. We will answer your questions and talk to you about our safety and security procedures that are in place that keep you and your children safe.

  • We have experienced staff to listen to you, hear what you want or do not want, and respectfully work with you on your and your children’s immediate needs, as well as your short-term and longer-term goals.

  • We will assist you to access Centrelink benefits including a crisis payment (if eligible), so that you are financially independent. We will help you with budgeting or refer you to specialist financial planners if required.

  • We will give you time to decide what you want and respect the decisions you make. We will help you to develop safety and escape plans (if applicable), as well as help you to plan for the future, identify goals and support you to work towards these.

  • We will give you information, advocate on your behalf and link you with specialist services to meet your specific needs, such as cultural, CALD and Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islanders services, immigration and visa support services, private, community and public housing, counselling, children’s services, medical and legal services.

  • We provide weekly empowerment and support groups (during school terms) that address issues such as self-esteem and assertiveness building, health and well-being, understanding the cycle and nature of domestic violence, parenting issues etc. The content of the groups is led by the participating women.

  • We will assist you to overcome barriers preventing you from obtaining and sustaining long-term safe and affordable housing.

  • Help you to access training, education and specialist services that can assist you to find employment.

  • Provide support and referral to obtain specialist legal advice relating to: Apprehended Violence Orders, Child Protection Orders, Court Support, Family Law, Property Matters etc.

  • Information on domestic and family violence is provided to individuals, groups, business and community organisations.


Our goal is to help you find safe long-term housing, and we continue to provide post crisis support to women once they re-establish themselves in their new independent homes or transitional housing properties.
