Jenny’s Place is inviting men from all walks of life to join the Larapinta Trek, an 8-day journey through the heart of Australia’s outback, from August 28 to September 4, 2025. This unique trek is not just about exploring the rugged beauty of the West MacDonnell Ranges; it’s about taking a stand against domestic violence and raising funds to support women and children impacted by it.
Through the Champions for Change initiative, Jenny’s Place aims to place men at the centre of the solution to end domestic violence. This isn’t just a call to action; it’s a call to unite, speak out, and break the silence. By participating in the Larapinta Trek, men can take a powerful step toward making domestic violence a safe issue to address, challenging the stigma, and leading the change our communities need.
Why Men’s Involvement Matters
Dawn Walker, CEO of Jenny’s Place, sees the role of men as vital in the journey toward ending domestic violence. “To break the cycle of intergenerational violence, men must be part of the conversation and the solution,” she shares. “This trek represents an opportunity for men to come together, support each other, and show that they are committed to creating a safer, more compassionate world.”
For too long, domestic violence has been a taboo subject for many men, with societal pressures often discouraging open dialogue. The Larapinta Trek offers a safe space for men to connect, discuss these critical issues, and demonstrate that standing against violence is a powerful display of strength. Dawn believes that by gathering in the heart of Australia, men can foster an environment of solidarity, challenge harmful norms, and set an example for future generations.
About the Trek: A Journey with Purpose
The Larapinta Trek is set against a backdrop of spectacular landscapes, featuring key highlights like Ormiston Gorge, Simpsons Gap, Standley Chasm, and a sunrise ascent of Mount Sonder. Each day offers a mix of physical challenges and breathtaking views, with knowledgeable guides providing cultural insights, particularly from the Arrernte people, the Traditional Owners of the land. Participants will be able to immerse themselves in Indigenous culture, gaining a deeper understanding of the connection to this ancient land and the importance of respect and harmony within the community.
After a day of trekking, participants will stay in eco-comfort camps designed to blend sustainability with comfort. Around the campfire, conversations can go deeper, allowing participants to reflect on the impact of domestic violence, the importance of allyship, and how each person can contribute to breaking the cycle of violence.
Fundraising for a Cause That Matters
The Larapinta Trek is not just about physical commitment but a commitment to raise funds for Jenny’s Place, helping support women and children escaping domestic violence. Every step on this trek directly impacts the resources Jenny’s Place can provide to survivors, from safe housing to essential support services. Participants can set up online fundraising pages to share with friends, family, and colleagues, amplifying the reach of their mission and inspiring others to contribute.

Dawn emphasises that the Larapinta Trek represents a starting point for deeper change. “We’re asking men to walk with us to raise awareness and be active, vocal participants in creating safe spaces and supporting women and children who need it most. This is an opportunity to show that men can be champions of compassion and advocates for a violence-free future.”
